Fueling Up Portugal with Low-Cost Stations

Get ready, Portugal! With its sights set on 15 stations across the country, the affordable fuel brand Plenergy is gearing up for a major expansion and investment in your nation. In a bold move, Plenergy plans to invest €17 million in Portugal, generating 61 new jobs, as revealed in a report by ECO.

The journey begins with the unveiling of a new fuel station in Trofa this July, their seventh in Portugal, and the groundbreaking in Matosinhos, Abrantes, Loures, and Póvoa do Varzim is already underway.

Tiago Preguiça, Plenergy's director of expansion and institutional relations for Portugal, shares the reason behind their Portuguese foray, stating, "We came to Portugal due to the geographical proximity and because Portugal needed a different competitor with a lower price."

As of now, the Spanish firm has hired 34 people, with the aim of recruiting around 61 employees by the year's end. Tiago emphasizes that with each new station, they create three job opportunities.

In a bid to establish a strong presence in mainland Portugal within the next couple of years, Plenergy targets having at least one station in each district.

Assuring affordable prices, Plenergy, in collaboration with major Iberian oil operators, guarantees fuel prices 10 to 15% lower than the average, making each liter significantly cheaper than popular gas stations by up to 20 cents.

According to Tiago, the lower price is a result of "smaller land requirements, fewer convenience stores or night shifts, and controlling the entire operation, including customer service and IT systems." Speedy refueling times, with a wait of just three minutes, also adds to their appeal.

Last year, Plenergy opened its first station in Guarda, and as of now, they operate six stations nationwide, including Viana do Castelo, Cartaxo, Paços de Ferreira, Vila Nova de Gaia, and Santa Maria da Feira.

From a competitive, cost-effective fuel option to boosting local employment, the word on the street is that Plenergy means business in Portugal.
