Affordable, ad-free streaming service introduced by Roku is accessible immediately
In a bid to expand its streaming offerings, Roku has launched a new service called Howdy. The service, priced at an extremely affordable $2.99 per month, is designed to complement, not compete with, the premium streaming services, according to Roku founder and CEO, Anthony Wood.
Currently, Howdy is only available via Roku devices and software. However, the company plans to release a mobile app and support other platforms in the near future.
Howdy does not produce its own content to keep costs down. Instead, it offers a variety of titles from partners such as Lionsgate, Warner Bros. Discovery, and FilmRise. At launch, the service boasts nearly 10,000 hours of content, including popular titles like "Mad Max: Fury Road," "The Blind Side," "Weeds," and "Kids in the Hall."
One of the standout features of Howdy is its ad-free streaming service. This sets it apart from competitors like Amazon's Prime Video and Netflix's ad-supported tier. Netflix's ad-supported tier is $7.99 per month, while the ad-free service starts at $17.99 per month. Amazon's Prime Video requires a $8.99 per month subscription (or it's included with a Prime Membership), and it still shows ads. The ad-free option costs an additional $2.99 per month.
Roku plans to continue adding content to Howdy's growing library. The company has also mentioned plans to include select Roku Original titles in the service’s lineup.
For those interested, you can sign up for Howdy today and start enjoying ad-free streaming at an unbeatable price. While the service is currently limited to Roku devices, Roku has indicated that it will be made available beyond Roku devices (mobile apps and other platforms are expected), although a specific timeline has not been provided.
Stay tuned for updates as Roku continues to expand the availability of Howdy to more platforms.
Howdy's unique selling point is its ad-free streaming service, differentiating it from competitors like Amazon's Prime Video and Netflix's ad-supported tier. The service sources content from partners in various industries, such as finance, technology, and entertainment, with partners like Lionsgate, Warner Bros. Discovery, and FilmRise providing content for Howdy's growing library.
