Adjusted Fare Rates for Workers on Public Transportation in Saxony-Anhalt
Collective Bargaining Agreement Reached in Saxony-Anhalt's Municipal Public Transport Sector
In a significant development, the United Services Trade Union (ver.di) and the Association of Municipal Employers in Saxony-Anhalt (KAV) have reached a collective bargaining agreement for employees in the municipal public transport sector. The agreement was announced on August 29, 2022, following three rounds of intense negotiations.
The agreement applies to employees working in various roles within the sector, including driving services. Notable changes include salary increases and vacation entitlement adjustments.
For employees, the agreed salary increase is a significant boost. The increase is 4% retroactively from July 1, 2022, and an additional 2.5% from April 1, 2023. This means that at least a 155 euro increase in salary is guaranteed for all employees. The hourly wages will also see an increase, with amounts ranging from approximately 1.30 to 2.60 euros per hour, depending on the salary group. For trainees, the training allowance will increase by 75 euros per month retroactively from July 1, 2022.
The vacation entitlement for employees will be increased to 30 days. This is a significant improvement, providing employees with more time for rest and relaxation.
However, the agreement does not specify any increases for employees beyond December 31, 2023. Moreover, no changes to benefits or working conditions other than salary and vacation entitlement have been mentioned.
The agreement duration is until December 31, 2023. The parties have also agreed on a mutual reservation of position until September 30, 2022. This means that neither party can terminate the agreement during this period without the other's consent.
Paul Schmidt, ver.di's lead negotiator, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the negotiations. He stated that the decision-making power for the agreement lies with the employees, who will hold a members' vote on the result. Schmidt also highlighted that the fixed amount increase was a key demand for ver.di, particularly beneficial to lower salary groups.
With this agreement, ver.di and KAV continue their tradition of negotiating collective agreements that define wages, working conditions, and contract lengths for public transport employees across various German states.
