Accord Group Tops Industry in Dow Jones Sustainability World and Europe Indices

The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) recently conducted an in-depth analysis of publicly traded companies worldwide, evaluating their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices using a best-in-class approach.

The analysis, which focused on innovation, supply chain management, climate strategy, stakeholder engagement, and industry-specific risks and opportunities, is one of the most recognized indexes for identifying companies with superior sustainability practices. While the evaluation relies on self-reported corporate data, it remains unbiased and reliable.

The DJSI, first launched in 1999, are global indices that track the financial performance of leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide. For the evaluation, companies responded to a detailed questionnaire of about 100 questions, covering ESG areas. Their responses were benchmarked against industry peers and geographic regions, and companies were ranked accordingly.

The analysis progressed companies through a 4-level structure from the initial pool to the final index: Starting Universe, Invited Universe, Assessed Universe, and ultimately the DJSI World. Companies can earn distinctions such as Sector Leader, Sector Mover, and SAM Gold, Silver, or Bronze Class based on their scores.

Interestingly, the analysis did not specify the number of large companies worldwide involved, nor did it provide details about the specific emerging markets involved. It is worth noting that the DJSI was not conducted by RobecoSAM, but it was likely one of the analyses they considered during their own evaluation process.

RobecoSAM, a leading investment solutions provider focusing on sustainable investing, invited over 3,000 publicly traded companies to report annually on their sustainability practices. This invitation is not obligatory but is extended annually to companies worldwide.

In conclusion, the DJSI evaluation emphasises how well companies manage economic sustainability while minimising environmental impacts and maximising positive social contributions, all compared within the context of their industry and regional peers through a rigorous questionnaire and scoring system. The DJSI continues to be a significant benchmark for sustainability-focused companies worldwide.
