45 Dogs Seized in Germany: Transport Violated Animal Welfare Rules
Customs officials in Augsburg intercepted a small truck carrying 45 canines from Romania to England on the A8 motorway near Leipheim. The transporter was found to have violated animal welfare transport regulations.
The transporter, a small truck, was stopped at the Leipheim junction. Despite the canines having necessary vaccinations, the transport was halted due to insufficient space provided for the animals. The veterinary office in Günzburg, which was informed along with the highway police, emphasised the importance of meeting animal welfare and disease control requirements for such transports.
Upon inspection, it was found that while 43 canines were transported in adequately sized boxes, two had to be temporarily housed in an animal shelter due to insufficient space. Some transport boxes were discovered to be too small for the canines. Proceedings for an administrative offense have been initiated against the transporter.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to animal welfare regulations during transport. The veterinary office in Günzburg has reiterated the need for compliance with these requirements to ensure the well-being of transported canines.
